Career change- BIM Manager to Software. Opinions wanted!

Hello! Using a throwaway account as I don’t want to “out” myself.

I currently work as a BIM manager in AEC. I have 10 years experience in my field and have introduced a number of innovations to my current company. I’m also an industry speaker and manage a national team.

I’ve been headhunted for a position working for a tech company as a technical product manager. The role would be very different to my current one, but draw on my experience. I’d be working with dev. teams and clients to create product features and integrations with external apps. Basically translating in the field real life experience for developers and users alike.

The role is based in Canada.

Am I mad to consider this move? I like the idea of a new challenge but am worried I’d be working a glorified sales role, which is not for me.

Pros: The money is better than my current position. If I really disliked it I could move back into AEC and I’m a bit disillusioned with my current company.

Cons: leaving current company after 5+ years. Might switch and then hate it and have to look for another job which is draining. Worried I’d essentially be working in sales.
